The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
