A Pair of Detentions Following Heathrow ‘Pepper Spray’ Attack

Placeholder Heathrow Airport scene
The assault caused the temporary closure of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park.

An additional two individuals are now in custody related to a robbery at London's Heathrow Airport where 21 people were injured by a substance believed to be an irritant spray, according to law enforcement.

A man, 24, was taken into custody in Lambeth for suspected robbery and assault and a 23-year-old woman was arrested for suspected conspiring to commit a robbery. Both individuals remain in custody, authorities confirmed.

The arrests come after an investigation into an assault at the multi-storey car park at Terminal 3 on Sunday. Prior to the attack, two women were robbed of their luggage upon exiting a parking garage elevator.

A three-year-old girl was one of the those hurt during the incident. Five people were taken to the hospital for treatment and have since been discharged.

Officers detained a 31-year-old man on suspicion of robbery and assault close to the location. He has since been released pending further inquiries as the investigation proceeds.

Police were called at about 08:10 GMT after reports came in regarding several individuals hurt by an irritating chemical thought to be pepper spray.

The assault - an event that authorities stated was isolated and not being treated as terrorism - caused train delays and the temporary shutdown of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the T3 parking facility for a short time.
